Landing a beautThe scenic Central South Island is home to some of the finest fly fishing you can find. Rainbow and Brown Trout thrive in the snow-fed rivers and lakes of the high country, while resident and sea-run Browns cruise lowland rivers and spring creeks.

Kevin Payne is your NZPFGA registered guide to the South Canterbury and Mackenzie districts of the South Island. In the shadow of the Southern Alps, Kevin specializes in spotting trout. He will put you onto and help you catch these cunning fish.

Stalking trout is challenging and has to be the most exciting kind of fly fishing. Kevin practices catch and release to assist in preserving the valuable resource of wild trout.

A big 'unThe New Zealand fishing experience is unique. You will love the combination of large fish, uncrowded rivers and striking scenery. Drift boat fishing is an option to get into those hard to access areas, or if mobility is an issue floating down a river can save a lot of walking. The regular fishing season runs from 1st October through to 30th April.

Fishing can be arranged by the day or week. A full day includes 4x4 transport from your local accommodation, river side lunch, equipment, flies and Kevin's friendly tips and services.

Are you looking for a relaxing evening, fishing the `rise' and spending the night dozing off to the sounds of the river? Back Country Trout has access to a private secluded shepherd's hut for comfortable overnight stays and fishing at the front door.
